Choice By Jodi Picoult
This
is a short story but a very pointed one.
One that all should read.
Choice
is a thought-provoking short story that explores the concept of role reversal
in society. It raises questions about how society would react if men were the
ones to face the consequences of their choices and how this would lead to a
re-evaluation of laws and societal rules. What would happen if the shoe were on
the other foot?
The
story imagines a world where all men between the ages of 15 to 50 who have had
sex at some point in their lives wake up one day pregnant and the fallout that
occurs as a result. It challenges
preconceived notions about women and their choices, debunking myths and
arguments overnight. How would society react if roles were reversed? What
laws and society's rules would be better understood and changed for the
better?
All
the preconceived notions about women and what they do with their lives are instantly
proven wrong. Now, it is men who have to face the consequences of just
having a good time. Women are free to
enjoy themselves and
walk away. They are freed from the
stigma, scorn, and concerns of life in the dating world.
It's a powerful story that makes readers think about the choices they make and the consequences that come with them. So, what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot? If only it were true. If only it would happen in real life.
Please
read. It won’t take long.
